Pivot, Pivot, PIVOT!

You can’t read that quote and not immediately picture Ross squeezing a couch up the stairs. Don’t worry, that scene definitely made it into the Friends children’s book! Here are some of our favorite moments from the show that are also featured:

  • Monica, Rachel, & Phoebe sitting on the couch after wedding dress shopping (The One With The Cheap Wedding Dress. Season 7, episode 17.)
  • Monica’s jellyfish sting. “That’s right! I stepped up! She’s my friend and she needed help. If I had to, I’d pee on any one of you!” (The One With The Jellyfish. Season 4, episode 1.)
  • Monica dancing around with the turkey on her head. (The One With All The Thanksgivings. Season 5, episode 8.)
  • Jumping into the map in “London, baby!” (The One With Ross’ Wedding. Season 4, Episode 23.)
  • Rachel’s trifle! “What’s not to like? Custard, good! Jam, good! Meat, gooood!” (The One Where Ross Got High. Season 6, episode 9.)

There are also so many more quotes throughout the book that you can’t forget!

  • “We were on a break!”
  • “Joey doesn’t share food!”
  • “Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?”
  • “You’re my lobster!”

I’m Not Great at the Advice. Can I Interest You in a Sarcastic Comment?

Do you need some tips on how to teach friendship in kindergarten? This Friends children’s book can definitely help you! There are some great discussion topics in the book.

  • Talking about different types of friends and how we are all unique. It is so important to teach about acceptance and diversity among friends.
  • Discuss different things to do with friends. This book talks about how you can still have fun even if you have different likes or dislikes from your friends.
  • One of the most important lessons is talking about saying sorry when you have hurt a friend. (When Chandler locks himself in a box for 6 hours as a way to say sorry to Joey- make sure to tell your students NOT to do that haha!)

They Don’t Know That We Know They Know We Know

We know the Friends children’s book has all those amazing moments from the series, but there are so many more that could also make great books! For example:

  • When Joey wears all of Chandler’s clothes. “Could I BE wearing any more clothes?” (The One Where No One’s Ready. Season 3, episode 2.) This would be a great opportunity to talk about not taking revenge, working through a conflict, time management, or anxiety (as Ross gets increasingly more anxious when no one is getting ready on time.)
  • Chandler having a roommate he doensn’t like, and Joey being lonely in his new apartment. Some lessons about conflict resolution and talking about your feelings could definitely come from this scene. (The One Where Eddie Won’t Go. Season 2, episode 19.)
  • Monica and Chandler adopting the twins is a wonderful way to talk about how all families look different, but are still special. (The Last One, Part 1. Season 10, episode 18.)
  • Chandler and Joey leaving baby Ben on a bus would be a great book idea to talk about what to do if you get lost, talking to strangers, and general safety! (The One With The Baby On The Bus. Season 2, episode 6.)
