June Classroom Management Tips

Start June off with a refresher on classroom rules and expectations. As we wind down to the end of the year, or start summer school with new students, keep a focus on cooperative learning and community building!

Don’t forget to re-visit all the important classroom management tips:

  • Keep the rules simple, easy to understand, and clear
  • Model the procedures you want the students to do
  • Follow up reminders throughout the day
  • Communicate with parents/guardians

Focus on the positives!

Some ideas for positive reinforcements:

  • “Wow, I noticed how you tasked on task and tried your best while working during centers today.”
  • “I heard students using kind words and taking turns at recess today. Fantastic job!”
  • “Show me that you’re ready to learn. Great job, _____, having your chair pushed in, materials out, and a listening ears on.”

Keep building those relationships! Greet students in the hall, ask about their day, send positive notes home, and show an interest in their families, activities, and ideas! Keep reading to find out all about this month’s classroom management tool and grab your freebie at the end!

More Summer Activities

If you need more ideas for students over the summer, check out this great article, “How to Prevent the Summer Slide!” There are lots of tips, freebies, and resources to share with parents so students can retain all the wonderful academic progress they made over the year.

Fill the Watermelon

June is such a fun month! The sun is shining, the pool or beach is calling, and students want to be outside having a picnic! This differentiated Fill the Watermelon activity is perfect to support your lessons!

You can choose to print out the picture and then cut and paste the seeds, or use one of the options to simply color in the different amounts of seeds!

These are so cute, fun, easy to do, and great for June classroom management. Students can earn items for anything: quick transitions, being good friends, being quiet in the hallway, cleaning up their messes, etc. Whatever you think is best and necessary for YOUR classroom! It’s important to set the expectations ahead of time though, so your students know exactly how to earn those seeds to fill up the watermelon.

When they are all full, you can choose a fun reward that all the students can enjoy as a class (further building that positive community feeling!) Some examples could be:

  • Free time
  • Popsicles
  • Stuffed animal day
  • Ice Cream party
  • Extra recess

Or better yet, let your students choose their reward!

Differentiated Plans

This month’s FREE printable for June classroom management comes with a variety of differentiation options so you can pick what’s best for YOUR students!

  • Fill the Watermelon for a fun Summer activity
    • 20 seeds to color
    • 10 seeds to color
    • Cut and paste the seeds to reach a certain amount

Another differentiated idea is to do this activity with tables working together. Or maybe just a couple of students need this as an individualized plan. This could even work well in your own personal life!
