How To Make A Paper Plate Earth Day Craft

Earth Day is April 22nd this year! It’s a great time to teach your students all about the Earth and how we can help keep it clean. After reading books and talking about recycling, picking up litter, planting trees, and other things we can do as a class, we like to make this Paper Plate Earth Day Craft. This Earth Day activity is a simple and creative way to celebrate the upcoming holiday.

How To Make A Paper Plate Earth Day Craft:

Supplies:

  • Paper plate
  • Green and blue crepe paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • White construction paper
  • Red construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Black construction paper

Directions:

First, cut the green and blue crepe paper into small squares. If you don’t have crepe paper, you can also use tissue paper. I like to use crepe paper because it is easy to cut into strips for each student. The texture of it adds a little more detail to the craft too.

Next, glue the blue squares onto the paper plate until it is covered completely. Then, glue the green squares on top of the blue ones to form the continents. During this step, I like to show my students the globe so they can see how the continents and oceans look

Then, cut the white construction paper into strips. Each student will need four strips of paper. Show your students how to accordion fold the strips of paper and glue them onto the paper plate for the arms and legs.

After gluing the arms and legs onto the paper plate, cut a heart out of the red construction paper and glue it onto the arms so they connect together.

Next, glue two googly eyes on the middle of the paper plate. If you don’t have googly eyes, you can make eyes by cutting circles out of white and black construction paper.  Then, cut a mouth out of black construction paper and glue it onto the paper plate.

This activity goes well with:
