Valentines Day Books for Kindergarten

We picked up some new Valentine’s Day books to share with kindergarteners and we just know your students will love them!

Like most kindergarten teachers, we like to incorporate good books into our lessons and this year we found some new (to us maybe) books to add to our Valentines collection. Whether you add these books to your read aloud for the week or add them to your students library, your students are sure to love them.

This article (and most articles on Simply Kinder) contains affiliate links. These links cost nothing for you to click and we only share things we love.

This article works well with these Simply Kinder resources:

Love Monster and the Last Chocolate is a story about sharing. Love Monster comes home to find a box of chocolates. He thinks about sharing it with his friends but then gets worried that he will get stuck with chocolate he does not like or with no chocolate. In the end, he decides to share and it ends up his friends are sharing their last chocolate with him.

Valentine’s Day by Emma Carlson Berne is a song put into a book. It talks about how the season is changing and some of the fun things your students may do on Valentine’s day. It also has a QR code at the end to get an audio version of the song.

A Book About Love is a great new book I picked up filled with different ways we show love to other people. This is a great book to read all year long and has beautiful illustrations your students will love.

Click Clack Moo I Love You is the traditional Click Clack Moo story about Valentine’s Day party. It’s a great book about friendship as the animals invite the fox to their dance. This book has lots of sparkles (the version I got anyways) that your students will love.

Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Love is a book filled with love sayings from different people. This is a great book not to read front to cover but to spark some conversations about friendship and love.

Outside Inside is a great book I found on Valentine’s display at our local bookstore. It’s a book about what is happening on the inside and outside of your home right now and some of the feelings around that. This book shows people with masks and addresses distancing so it is very appropriate for right now.

Laugh Out Loud Valentine’s Day Jokes for Kids is not new but new to us. We have noticed kids these days love telling jokes and so we picked up this book to learn some new jokes. This book is great to just pick up before lunch and read a few jokes. It’s also great to really push figurative thinking which is great for your students.

What Valentine’s Day books do you love? Share in the comments so other teachers can pick those up too.
