Zoo Virtual Field Trip

One of the best parts of going to the zoo is going around to see all the different animals! Here are some videos that will bring you on a quick tour of the whole zoo!

This video is fun because it brings you all the way to Australia! There are lots of animals native to Australia here, but some other traditional zoo animals as well.

No talking in this one which is kind of nice, just a full-speed walk around the Toronto zoo!

Zoo Miami is one of the biggest zoos in the USA, so this is a great opportunity to be able to tour the whole zoo! Get up close to some of the animals with a behind the scenes tour as well!

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a zookeeper? This quick video shows the students some behind the scenes ideas of a typical day for a zookeeper! Learn more about primates during this video as well! Click here for another video of a zookeeper with lots of answered questions. This one is quite a bit longer, almost 9:00, so keep that in mind before starting!

Zoo Live Cams

There is no better way to learn about an animal’s natural behavior than by watching them live! While these have all been viewed for appropriateness, please keep in mind that anything can happen during a live view. A lot of zoos have live cams set up, here are some of the best ones!

San Diego Zoo:

The San Diego zoo is one of the best and biggest in the country, so you will definitely want to have your students check out their animals. They have live cams for koalas, baboons, polar bears, penguins, hippos, apes, tigers, elephants, platypus, giraffes, owls, pands, and a condor! Click here to access all of the cameras, and check out a map of the zoo on their website so you can go in order!

Oregon Zoo:

The Oregon zoo website is unique in that they have live cameras, and also do weekly videos to talk to the zookeepers and see different animals! After each video, there are fun activities the students can complete to test their knowledge on what they learned! Click here to see a list of videos and activities that they have saved, and check out the schedule for upcoming videos as well!

Smithsonian National Zoo:

See giant pandas, elephants, lions and naked mole-rats on animal cams streaming live, 24/7 from the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC! They also have animal bingo cards you can download which are designed to engage learners in looking closely and thinking deeply about animal behavior and habitats! Click here to see their live cam list!

Zoo Songs for Fun

Students might need to get their wiggles out after watching all these great zoo videos and cameras! Here are some fun zoo songs to get them up singing and dancing while they reminisce about all the animals they visited during their zoo virtual field trip!

A fun song about a trip to the zoo with some animal sounds and movements along the way!

“We’re going to the zoo” is a song that children have been singing for years! Hopefully your students will recognize this one and love singing along!

This song is a little more mellow so it’ll be good for winding down and reminding them about all the animals they see at the zoo!

Zoo Animal Research

After their zoo virtual field trip, your students will be even more excited to learn about zoo animals! Check out these great research reports with craft covers! Learn about five different zoo animals with a close reading passage, graphic organizers, writing pages, a craft, and a cover page! Click here to get the whole bundle!
