Arizona Booking Across America with Giveaway!

I am very excited to be representing Arizona in the Booking Across the USA event where educators from across the US have teamed up to offer some AMAZING stories and activities for all the different states!

What I love most about the book I selected is many of us already do a unit or book study on The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly...  so it only seemed fit to share There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea because you don't have to live in AZ to enjoy it!

This funny story is filled with lots of commonly found items from Arizona - cactus, coyotes, and even a 10 gallon hats!  What could be more AZ than that?

So we read the book - well we sang the book because I have a problem reading books that have a corresponding song.  My favorite line "it took lots of practice to swallow a cactus" but the kids favorite hands down was singing "Yippee-o-Ki-Yee!"

Coming up with an activity for this book was SO easy because the author Jennifer Ward had already done so for us!  In fact, she created 5 amazing activities to go with the book!   Everything from sequencing that matches the illustrations of the book to taste testing of foods typically known in AZ.

Click the image above to see her lesson plans for this story!

Seriously how amazing is that?  We did the sequencing activity because the kids just love having the graphics to retell a story!    You have to check out her webpage because she has several other stories that would fit this theme and they ALL HAVE LESSON PLANS!  Thank you Jennifer Ward!

But it gets better!  Jennifer Ward has graciously offered to give one lucky reader a copy of this book!

So hop back over to Booking Across the USA to see all the other amazing educators and their book selections for the states they live in!  Thanks for stopping by!

  2. So right. We love reading, singing and retelling I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Have enjoyed many of the other take-offs on it also, but this one is new. Will be looking for it through our library system as it looks like a fun read and explores an environment very different from ours.
