October is one of my most favorite months of the year in the classroom. We study bats, spiders and pumpkins. In our Simply Kinder Teacher Facebook Group, the teachers have been all excited this over Pippa the Pumpkin Fairy from Jennifer over at Kinder Drama. This book is the perfect October story to help celebrate students and encourage positive behaviors.
Pippa the Pumpkin Fairy has a special wand that can give pumpkin lanterns a ‘face with a boo’, but when Pippa’s magic pumpkin goes wrong, she is much too afraid to tell all of her friends. Instead, Pippa tells a lie – that her wand is helping her to create the most spectacular pumpkin lanterns ever! The story emphasizes the importance of telling the truth.
For the rest of the month of October, Pippa the Pumpkin Fairy had chosen 2 students that had been caught doing something good the day before. I made a certificate that they get to take home and they also got to have a small little stuffed pumpkin on their desk for the day. (I found mine at Joann’s). The kids looked forward to coming into the classroom each day to see who the Pumpkin Fairy had chosen. My student behavior for the month was great with the help of Pippa the Pumpkin Fairy!
