What to Expect the First Week

The first week of school is always exciting AND exhausting! Your feet with hurt. Your voice will be strained. You will console emotional students and parents. You will worry that students get home the correct way. Sorting supplies will feel like it goes on for hours.

Most of the first week is spent going over procedures, practicing procedures, and going over procedures some more. It is worth it to spend as much time as possible on procedures.

You may have tons of fun activities planned for the first week and it’s possible you won’t get to them all. That’s okay! You are building relationships first!

No Prep Printables

Our First Week of School Bundle includes 65 pages of no-prep printables. It covers all of your needs from assessment to get to know you activities.

  • Quick Snapshot Assessment – name writing, letter/sound identification, numbers, and CVC words
  • All About Me Bags and Printable
  • Practice Pages (alphabet, name writing, gluing, tracing, sounds, shapes, counting, numbers)
  • First Day Self-Portrait and First Story
  • Book Extensions

Teacher Tips: Give students play-doh to make the letters of the alphabet while you pull students for the 1:1 snapshot assessment.

Send a positive note/email home on the 1st day!

Which Books for the 1st Week?

Choose books to tie in with the activities and procedures that you will cover in the first week. Focus on books that cover friendship, social skills, rules, respect, and cooperation.

Editable School Supply Slide Decks

Teaching your kindergarten students the proper ways to use supplies in the classroom is an important part of back to school procedures. Our editable School Supply Slide Decks (Powerpoint and Google Slides) cover all the basics of using school supplies correctly. Each set of slides offers rules, tips, and interactive practice.

Teacher Tips: Allow students to practice with the supplies once you’ve discussed the proper way to use each one. This would also be a great time to sort supplies into pencil boxes if you are using individual supplies.

Class Rules

The First Week of School Bundle also has classroom rules covered. The set includes 6 rules, but these are editable to fit your classroom needs. You will find posters, parent communication pages, a booklet for students, graphic organizers, and word wall cards that correlate with each rule in this set.

All About Me Book

This book is the perfect get to know you activity and students will love drawing pictures to share about themselves. The book is low prep and makes the perfect addition to a morning meeting or share time on the carpet.

Teacher Tips: Students can share their books when they present their All About Me Lunch Bag.

Practice Pages

The back to school bundle has you covered for practicing with glue, scissors, and tracing. Each set includes many options of no prep printables to practice each skill. The glue and scissor sets include a book & reader and a certificate for students once they master the skills.

First Day or Week of Kindergarten Hats

End the first day or week by making a fun hat with your students. You have over 35 hats to choose from in this pack. There are hats for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd day of school OR for the end of the week (we know expectations don’t always make it to reality).

Bonus Items Included

August Morning Bins

You will receive 2 BONUS sets in your First Week of School Activities for Kindergarten Bundle. The first is our August Morning Bins. These hands-on & engaging bins are the perfect way to start the school day and allow students to practice skills in a fun way!

Teacher tip: Only introduce one at a time and practice, practice, practice working with materials, following directions, and working with others.

Editable Lesson Plans

Your 2nd bonus is editable lesson plans to cover the first 5 days of school. Lesson plans include activities, tips, checklists, and more to help make your first week of school run smoothly.
