Glow Day Materials

You’d be surprised how easy it is to have a glow party in kindergarten! You might already have things in your classroom, and other stuff you can have donated or get at dollar tree.
Most classrooms already have LED flashlights that you use for reading activities, and if they are turned blue, they make things glow! You can also add a few black light bulbs or black light lamps! There are fun projector lights with stars or fun colors that would look beautiful. Send an email out to families or your fellow teachers. You’d be surprised who might already have one that you can borrow! If you’re looking for places to buy them at the best price, check out the comments from this post on our Simply Kinder Teacher Group Facebook Page!
Other items you can gather from the dollar store or get donated are listed below.
- Glow Sticks
- Glow bracelets and necklaces
- Glow in the dark stars
- Glow in the dark tattoos or stickers
- Neon Tape
- Highlighters
- Neon Slime
- Bowling Set
- Lite-Brite Toy
- Neon Streamers/Banners
Have your students wear white (or very light colors) on your glow party day! These shirts will have the best glowing effect under black lights and look awesome! They can also wear neon vests or hats to really up the glow factor.
Glow Party Activities
There are so many activities you can include in your glow day! Highlighters make GREAT accessories for a glow day party! Have students write with them all day for any activity you do! All of your daily centers are perfect activities for the day. Just grab a recording sheet, then trade out the pencil for a highlighter. These Summer Review Literacy & Math Worksheets would be PERFECT for the end of the year! You are still completing academic activities, but it’s made more fun with a highlighter and black lights!
Other activities we love to include are listed below.
- Graffiti Wall
- Domino Addition
- Jenga (use neon duct tape to cover blocks)
- Bowling with bright white pins
- Create pictures or words on a Lite-Brite
- Play with neon slime on cookie sheets
- Tic-Tac-Toe using a grid made of neon tape and glow sticks as markers
Last, but not least – have an EPIC glow dance party! Students LOVE dancing in class, and it’s only going to be more fun by adding black lights, glow in the dark accessories, and projector lights! Use your favorite class brain break songs, then play some Kidz Bop versions of the most popular dance songs! They’re going to think you’re the coolest teacher ever!
