I am always looking for fun ways to incorporate my families into the classroom. And so when I did this Mail Myself Family Project with a colleague, I had to share it with you all.
We start by learning a few of the lyrics from Woodie Guthrie’s song Mail Myself to you. It’s easy to learn and the kids love it. Then we literally follow the directions in the song and mail ourselves to our families. Students will literally wrap themselves in paper, dab themselves with glue, put a stamp on top of their head, and mail themselves to you!
For years my school would mail these to our class. In recent years – not so much. So I will ask for stamp donations from the families in my weekly newsletter or steal stamps from my mom and sisters. (Not literally steal them but beg people I know for one or two just to make the cost burden easier and make up for the ones families don’t send in.) You can of course also send them home with the kids.
Check out Mrs. Barganier’s class here. They are adorable! Thanks for sharing!
