How Teachers are Like Pineapples

My latest obsession is pineapples.  And it got me thinking, how are teachers like pineapples?  How can I teach like a pineapple? I did a little thinking and thought to myself teachers are like pineapples.

Every day teachers stand tall, we wear a crown on our head, and we are sweet on the inside. And so I made a list of what Teaching Like a Pineapple means to me.

How teachers are just like pineapples.

Teach Like a Pineapple – Stand Tall.

  • Be proud of being a teacher.
  • Do what you know is best for kids.
  • Do what you are told.
  • Teach with integrity.
  • Have high expectations for learning.
  • Be positive.
  • Encourage your students.
  • Guide your students.
  • Teach with intention.
  • Be organized and well prepared.
  • Motivate your students.
  • Create a sense of community in your class and school.
  • Be accessible to your students and families.  Let them know you care.
  • Fight for your students and what they need.
  • Be professional.
  • Love learning for yourself.
  • Discover new things. Change with the times.
  • Shift gears when needed and make it seem easy.
  • Be dedicated, and have work-life balance.
  • Stand up for what is right in the bigger picture of teaching.

Teach Like a Pineapple – Wear a Crown on Your Head.

  • Be proud of being a teacher.
  • Speak positively about being a teacher.
  • Be a helpful staff member.
  • Go to school events.
  • Make learning seem easy and fun.
  • Try to make your students feel included and accepted.
  • Be dynamic and try new things.
  • Take on changes to policy or curriculum like a boss.
  • Be self-confident.  Model this so your students become it too.
  • Be fair.  Listen.
  • Have your classroom management so under control that the kids don’t know you are in charge.

Teach Like a Pineapple – Be Sweet on the Inside.

  • Love your job.
  • Love your students.
  • Appreciate your parents.
  • Work together.
  • Collaborate and cooperate.
  • Don’t be a teacher bully.
  • Be positive.
  • Make learning easy.
  • Have fun with your students.
  • Be energetic.
  • Embrace change.
  • Be funny.  Laugh with your students.
  • Try to make sure your students like you. No one wants to work with someone they don’t like.

No one ever told me teaching would be easy.  I will tell you that teaching is the toughest job you will ever love.  But great teachers are like pineapples – they stand tall, wear a crown, and are sweet on the inside.  Be a pineapple. Teach like a pineapple.
